Sir Thomas More
More sits black-robed with startling gilded face and hands outside Chelsea Old Church, where he sang in the choir and built his family chapel. Henry VIII's Lord Chancellor lived in Chelsea until his refusal to accept the king's supremacy cost him his head; the plinth reads simply 'Scholar, Statesman, Saint'.
