The Albert Memorial
Victoria's towering grief made architecture: a 54-metre gothic canopy sheltering a gilded Albert, holding the catalogue of his Great Exhibition, ringed by 169 carved figures of artists and continents of marble elephants and camels. Restored and re-gilded in 1998 after decades painted black.
