Oliver Cromwell
Sword in one hand, Bible in the other, Cromwell stands outside the Parliament he both served and dissolved. The statue was so contentious that Parliament refused to fund it — Lord Rosebery paid anonymously — and across the road a bust of the executed Charles I stares back at him from St Margaret's church.
