Earl Haig Memorial
The commander of British forces on the Western Front rides down Whitehall towards the Cenotaph. Hardiman's stylised horse — modelled on Renaissance equestrian ideals rather than a real charger — caused a decade of public controversy before the memorial was finally unveiled.
